I made a fun Easter pail full off treats for the kids' teachers yesterday. Here is what I made:
Chocolate Peeps:
I needed peeps that were bunny shaped, chocolate almond bark, mini marshmallows, and long lollipop sticks.
First, stick a lollipop stick into the bunny, being careful not to mess up the shape of the bunny. I melted chocolate in a plastic cup. This was for two reasons. One; have you ever tried to get melted chocolate out of a bowl or cup? It's hard & I'm lazy, so I use disposable cups now. Number two is that I use a cup because it is makes the chocolate deeper than in a bowl, so it is easier to cover what I'm covering.
Make sure that you gently knock off any excess chocolate, especially around the ears so it still looks like a bunny. Place it on wax or parchment paper and put a mini marshmallow as the tail while the chocolate is still wet.
Let them dry completely before picking them up.
Nutter Butter Chicks:
For this, you need Nutter Butters, yellow candy melts, Reese's Pieces, and I used blue nonpareils for the eyes, but you could use frosting.
I originally tried to have these on a stick as well, but I destroyed two cookies in the process, so I gave up. If I had thin sticks, it would have worked (just stick melted candy melt on a stick, place inside cookie, then let dry completely), but all I had was round ones, and I wasn't running to the store again. :0)
Since my on a stick wasn't going to work, I just made them plain.
I melted the candy melts in the microwave, then using a plastic fork, dunk the cookies in and shook the excess off before placing on wax or parchment paper.
While it is still wet, place two orange Reese's Pieces on the bottom for feet, cut one in half and use as a beak, and then put the nonpareils as eyes.
Let them dry before picking up.
Chocolate Covered Pretzels:
You need pretzel rods, and different candy melts. I wanted mine to be Easter colors, I a made the base pink and then I used the left over yellow candy melts for a design. I was going to use white too, but changed my mind since I liked just the pink and yellow. ;0)
I melted the pink melts in a plastic cup, then dipped the rods in. If you tilt the cup, you can swirl the candy melts up to where you want them to stop on the rod.
Lay them on wax paper when you are done and let them dry.
After they are dry, melt the yellow (or whatever color you want) and place into a small baggie. Cut a tiny hole in the corner and drizzle it over the rods to make lines.
Let them dry and break off any excess candy melts.
Now, for the pails. I bought these cute bunny pails at Target in the $ bin section. I love that section!! I also needed a small Styrofoam cylinder, tissue paper, ribbon (I used light purple chevron ribbon), and clear cellophane bags.
First, I cut a small circle off of the cylinder and placed it in the bottom of the pail.
I put two bunny sticks in each pail, so I stuck two sticks through the cellophane and into the Styrofoam.
I wrapped tissue paper around the sticks and over the Styrofoam.
Then I carefully placed two chicks and three pretzels in the bag. I lifted the bag over the treats and tied it with the ribbon.
I printed off these cute tags to attach to each pail:
The kids brought these to their teachers today and they all said they loved them. These were fun to make and making things like this lets me do the fun treats I like doing, but they aren't around my house to tempt me. ;0) It's a win-win!
Have a Happy Easter!!
Adorable!!!!!!!!!
