Bear Scout

On Sunday, we went to Zach's Blue & Gold Banquet for scouts.
He got several badges.
One for helping sell popcorn, one for selling over $800.00 worth of popcorn, one for participating in the Pinewood Derby, and one for donating to the scouts.
But the most important thing that happened was that Zach and his fellow den members became Bear Scouts!!
They got to change their neckerchiefs to blue with a bear slide.
They will get their actual bear badges at the next pack meeting.

He worked all year to complete the activities to become a bear scout.
We are so proud of Zach for working so hard!!
Congratulations Zach!!

Scout Camp!

This was Zach yesterday.
All ready and excited for Scout Day Camp.
I wish I had taken a picture of him when he got home.
He was EXHAUSTED!!!
But a good exhausted. =)
He got to swim, make a craft, build a wooden race car, shoot a BB gun, do relay races, and lots more!
The only downside?
He found a tick on him last night in the shower......
on a part of his body that he has become really shy about....
you know since he is 7.
He wasn't too crazy about the removal of said tick.
But he survived, and he heard (I think to his relief) other "horror" stories of other boys finding ticks on them in similar places when he saw them this morning.
Other than that, he had a great time yesterday.
He goes back today and tomorrow for some more outdoor fun!

He is now a Tiger Cub Scout.

We are so proud of you Zach for all of your hard work!

Pinewood Derby Part 2

Zach's Scout Pinewood Derby was Saturday night.
I was out of town, so I didn't get to go, but Jeff took some pictures for me.
Here is Zach with his number, waiting for the races to begin!

These are some of the cars that raced in the derby.

This is Zach getting ready to watch the cars go down the ramp to the finish line!

His car didn't win. =(
After his disappointment faded, Jeff said Zach had fun watching the other cars and talking to his friends.
When I saw Zach, I asked if he had fun and he said, "YES!!"
I think both "boys" are excited about making another car and racing again next year. =)

Pinewood Derby!

Zach and Jeff have been working on Zach's car for the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby all week!
You start out with a block of wood and cut it into what shape you want.
Then you have to sand it down nice and smooth.

Zach decided to paint his car purple and white.

Jeff drilled out a hole in the bottom and helped Zach fill his car with BB's so it will be heavier to make it go faster. They had to make sure his car was no heavier than 5 ounces.
His is 4.8 ounces.
Then Jeff and Zach polished the axles so the car will go even faster!

Here is Zach's finished car!

Didn't they do a great job!!

Zach is very proud of his car!

The race is Saturday.
Good Luck Zach!!!

Tiger Scouts!

Zach had his first Tiger Cub Scout meeting last night! He was SO excited!!!! He wanted to be in scouts so bad last year, but they don't offer scouts for Kindergarten boys at his school. (I don't know if this is a Boy Scout thing or just his school.) So, when they passed out papers to sign up at the end of the year last year, he couldn't wait to show me. We signed him up and he even got to go to a Boy Scout social event in August. Last night was the first meeting for his individual troop though, and he got to wear his brand new uniform. (Complete with patches that Jeff & I sewed on with our limited sewing ability....I think we are going to find some way to iron them on next time.....really, it shouldn't take two adults 2 hours to sew on three numbers and a circle.) Jeff is a volunteer and goes to all of the meetings with him. Zach had a lot of fun last night and even earned his first badge last night!! He will receive it at the Boy Scout meeting for the whole school next month!
