Candy Corn Cookies

Or: The cookies I will never, ever, make again.
Really.
Have you ever had an idea and you think, "That's sounds cute and easy."
I had one of those thoughts this morning. I was trying to think of something cute for Riley's Halloween party at school tomorrow. I thought that I could make sugar cookies that look like candy corn. Now I know I could have just cut out triangles and frosted them orange, white, and yellow. But, I must be watching too much Ace of Cakes and Food Network Challenge, because I thought that putting food coloring in the dough and just rolling out the dough to cut out cookies would be a much better idea. Hindsight is always 20/20.

So, here is what we did:
First I had Riley help me make the dough and color it the right colors.

Then he helped me roll out the dough....but not for long....

These were so hard to make! It took me forever to figure out the right width to roll the different colors of dough out. (I had giant cookies at first!) I finally figured it out after about the third try and lots of wasted dough. =(

I really did almost give up and just do (buy) something else. But, Riley really wanted these cookies, especially since he helped make them.
So, here are the finished cookies:

Not quite as cute as I had pictured them in my head though. Oh well. I think I will definitely just use frosting next time....and I don't think I am quite ready for my appearance on Food Network Challenge. =)

Caramel Apples

Sunday night we made caramel apples.
The boys unwrapped all of the caramels......

and then waited forever for the caramels to melt. (according to them)

They each got to dip their own apple. They really liked this part.

YUMMY!

Random Things

Here are some random things that happened this weekend, and I thought I would throw them all into one post.

First, here is Lily in her Chief's cheerleader outfit. She thought it was a princess dress, and I didn't have the heart to tell her it wasn't, so she walked around all day saying she was a pretty princess. =)

Zach's last soccer game was Saturday. He got a medal at the end of the game and a cool picture with him and his teammates that one of the mom's took at the beginning of the season. He was really proud of his medal!

Today, the boys found a fuzzy caterpillar! Isn't it cute???

Jeff gave them a glass jar to keep it in and they found a branch, grass, leaves, and even some flowers to put in with it.

After much debate on what they wanted to name it, (Riley kept insisting on calling it Riley.) =) they settled on Speedy because he kept crawling off really fast......trying to get away from them. =)
I don't have any pictures of this next event, but I thought it would be funny to tell you. Earlier today, I thought Lily was in one room with Jeff & Jeff thought she was in another room with me. When we discovered she wasn't with either of us and we hadn't heard from her in awhile, I went looking for her. I found her in the upstairs bathroom. As soon as she saw me, she dropped a toothbrush (not hers by the way) and jumped down from the stool in front of the sink and said, "I NOT brushing my teeth!!!" I just looked down at her and saw blue toothpaste all over her mouth, teeth, shirt, jeans, and hands. Then I looked past her into the bathroom to find toothpaste all over the sink and counter. I'm pretty sure she brushing something....

Well, that's it. I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend!!!!!

You buy them toys.....

....and all they want to play with is a box.

Anytime we get something that comes in a big box, the kids want to play in it. They want to tip each other over in it, they want to hide in it, they want to color the inside of it to make it a "secret hideout". I think for Christmas they are all getting a big box. =)

Cow Town

On Saturday, Jeff took Zach to Cow Town for a Tiger Scout function. It was FREEZING!! Poor Zach had spent an hour playing soccer in the cold weather, then came home long enough to change clothes to head over to Cow Town to spend two more hours outside. He had fun, even though both he and Jeff were pretty cold by the time they got home.

Zach thought this coffin was funny....

They did get to go inside to tour some of the buildings. One of them was the building where they print papers. They even got to print their own piece of paper!

Pumping water!

The boys went into the barn to feed chickens, a horse, and a cow.

They also got to ride in a covered wagon....

...and a stage coach.

The finale of the day was a gunfight between these two people.

Even though it was COLD, Zach said he had a really good time. He loves scouts!!
