Sunset Pictures

The kids didn't have school on Monday, so I took this opportunity to do an art project with them. Since the kids are all getting older, I'm trying to find projects that are a little bit more challenging, so they will last longer than 5 minutes. :0)
I've seen variations of this project before, so I thought we would try it out and make it our own. First, I showed the kids pictures of sunsets. They looked at what colors sunsets can be, and they noticed that the objects sometimes looked black against the sunset. They all chose an object they wanted in their picture, then they started painting their sunsets, while I looked for pictures to print out of their objects.

This is Lily's sunset when she was done painting it:

Riley chose dolphins for his picture, so he cut out some black paper for water, then he cut out the dolphins I printed out, that happened to be black, and glued them on his paper like they were jumping out of the water.

Lily wanted a tree, so she cut out black paper for grass, then she glued this tree onto black paper & cut it out to be glued, black side up, on her sunset.

Zach wanted a pirate ship. The ship he wanted was already black, but kind of intricate to cut out, so he cut out the basic shape, then glued it onto his paper and painted his sunset over it.

He also painted a beach and water.

I love how they all took the basic idea of this and made it their own. They all did a good job and it took them about an hour to do. (Yeah!) ;0)

Our Walk

This weather has been great! I can't believe it is November and we are still able to play outside and go for long walks! Today we went in search of leaves for an art project. Riley found plenty. He kept naming them too. Did you know that some leaves are called "Rare Orange Warblers"? They are. There are also "Rare Red Warblers" too. =)

When Riley saw this:

He got SUPER excited! So excited that he wanted me to take a picture of it before he picked it.
He thought they were all dead by now.

He found one for Lily too.
Poor Lily had such a hard time blowing hers....she tried so hard.

When we got to the park, they ran up the hill and Riley was ecstatic to see one whole side covered in dandelions!!

Lily spotted this big spider. (yuck!)

I don't know why this is so much fun...but apparently it is. =)

Enjoy the weather while you still can!!

Fall Fun

We only have one small tree in our yard, and it doesn't produce many leaves to play in, so when our next door neighbor let the neighborhood kids play in the leaves in her yard, Zach & Riley ran over quick! Here they are playing with some of their neighbor friends.

Yesterday, Riley had his Halloween party for school (they don't have school next Friday for conferences, so they had it early.) I forgot to take my camera to the party though!!!! I was so mad at myself. Oh well. Since I didn't get any cute pictures of them at the party, I took pictures of Lily and Riley in their Halloween shirts afterwards.

Then when Zach got home, he put his Halloween shirt on.

Caramel Apples

Sunday night we made caramel apples.
The boys unwrapped all of the caramels......

and then waited forever for the caramels to melt. (according to them)

They each got to dip their own apple. They really liked this part.

YUMMY!
