DIY Photo Hanger

I have a lot of family and I like to hang the pictures that they give me, but I have too many to put them al in frames, so I got this photo hanger (I'm sure that's the technical term) but as you can see, it doesn't exactly hold the pictures in place.....

I decided to make a new one, so I got a cheap frame, paint, fabric, ribbon, and mini clothes pins:

Lily wanted to (insisted on) helping me. So we painted the frame yellow.

While we let that dry, we measured out the gray and white chevron material for the background, but putting the back of the frame on the material, then cutting around it leaving about a half inch extra to glue down.

We put on a second coat of paint and let it sit over night.

The next day, we measured out the ribbon so we could glue it onto the inside of the frame:

Then we put the back onto the frame:

Lily wanted to put the pictures on with the clothes pins, so I laid the pictures where I wanted them and she clipped them on:

All done! So much cuter than the old one!

I got the frame, paint, and fabric from Walmart, and the ribbon and clothes pins from Michael's.

Uniform Hair Bows

Lily is now in the second grade, and I have been wanting to go get her uniform hair bows since kindergarten, but since we get all of Lily's uniforms from my nieces that they have outgrown (Yeah for hand me downs!!) and the boys just get pants & shirts from either Target or Wal-Mart, I haven't been by the actual uniform store. So I finally decided to use one of Lily's outgrown uniforms (I don't have anyone to pass it on to.) and turn it into a headband and bow!

I saw these types of material flowers on Pinterest, but they were for a necklace. I though they seemed pretty easy and co sewing was involved, so they were right up my alley! ;0)

All I needed was scissors, a hot glue gun, felt, a headband, a clip, and the uniform.

First, I wanted to cover the headband, so I cut a small strip of material...

glued the end onto one side...

wrapped it around the headband....

and hot glued the other end:

I made the flower next. I cut out a felt circle:

cut out circles from the uniform, using the felt circle as a pattern...

then one by one, I folded the circles up like this:

hot glued the end, and glued them onto the felt:

I continued to do this until I got the fullness I wanted.

Then I trimmed the felt so I couldn't see it from the top and glued it onto the headband.

These pictures make it look kind of weird, but it is actually really cute.

I made a flower clippie out of uniform material next. I started out with a felt circle again and used it as a pattern to cut out uniform material circles. I think this one turned out better because I made the circles smaller this time.

Just like before, I folded the circles and put hot glue on the tip and glued them to the felt.

After I had it as full as I wanted, I trimmed the felt and then hot glued the clip to the felt.

I forgot to take a picture of Lily with this one in her hair. :0(
She loved both of them though!!
These were super easy to make and MUCH cheaper than if I had bought them!

Hair Flowers

I love putting things in Lily's hair.
I have lots of bows and some headbands that I use.
She even has some cute hats.
I had seen big flowers on clips and headbands and thought those would be really cute in her hair.
So I ordered some headbands and a big purple daisy flower clip.
But when I got it, I was kind of disappointed.
It was not the color I thought it was going to be. =(
Then I looked at it and thought.....I could make this myself!
So I took Lily to Michael's and we picked out some cute flowers:

I also bought some hair clips and some headbands.
I clipped off the stems of the flowers,
got out my trusty glue gun,
and glued the flower to the clip.

Now Lily has cute clips for her hair and for headbands!

We even clipped one onto her hat.
(It is just clipped on, so we can change out the color of the flower.)

I made three flower clips.
(and have about 7 more clips left to make more.)
All for under $6.00!!
Jeff is happy that we are saving money on this. ;-)
