When I was little, my mom used to make donuts for us out of biscuits. They are delicious. I saw a version of this on a cooking show & thought that I had never made these donuts for my kids. I can't believe that!! This was one of my favorite things my mom made when I was little. The kids thought this was a great idea, so we made some this morning. You take a can of refrigerator biscuits and poke a hole into the middle of each one.

Lily actually tore her biscuit into pieces, so I helped her roll them into balls and......TADA! donut holes. =)

While we were making the holes in the dough, I heated oil in a big frying pan. You want the oil hot, but not too hot or the outsides will burn and the insides will be doughy. After a few minutes when the bottoms are brown, turn the donuts over and cook the other side for a few minutes. (I know...great instructions, but really, I have no measurements or time frames for this stuff! I'm going from memory here.)
After they are done, you put sugar and cinnamon on them. My mom actually only used sugar, but my friend Stephanie said her mom did this and she used cinnamon also, so that's what we tried. I'm sure you could probably use whatever you wanted. My mom is smarter and she always put them in a paper sack filled with sugar, but I thought the kids would have more fun if they saw the donuts being coated, so I let them use a time we are using a bag. =)

The bag is also better because you are supposed to cover the donuts when they are hot so more sugar stays on but I had to wait until they were cooled off a little, so their fingers didn't get burnt. It still worked though and the kids thought they were great!! Zach said, "These are SO good!" and Riley said, "I can't believe how delicious these are!" (That cracked me up because I thought, you didn't think they were going to be good?? ha ha ha!)

Zach even thought they were "finger licking good!"

Riley asked me if we could make more and I told him we would make some this weekend, that way Daddy could have some too. He looked at me seriously and said, "Make sure you make double then." I guess that means he likes them....or that he thinks Daddy will eat a lot of them. =)

  1. Hey - Tell Riley that we don't have to make double, I'll just eat his...

  2. You can also let them cool, then frost them. My mom used to do pink cake frosting on them. YUM!!
